RAMPS UK, the Register of Metallic Phosphide Schemes, held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) during PestTech.
Whilst this was a closed meeting, which, we understand, formerly recorded the significant progress made, such as the establishment of a network of qualified trainers and assessors, it was followed by an open forum whichPestattended.

Here the main concern surrounded the need for more and better communication from RAMPS to its members and wider target audiences. Certainly a requestPestwould like to support on behalf of the pest control industry press. There was considerable discussion about the stance taken by Killgerm. As of 1 September 2011, newly qualified customers wanting to purchase aluminium phosphide products from Killgerm must hold the newCity & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Pest Control. Customers who already hold a recognised qualification and new customers who obtained one of the 20 ‘old’ certificates recognised by Killgerm prior to the 1 September cut-off are not affected and will continue to be supplied. “Whilst it is not a legal requirement, it gives impetus to the new training and certification system and provides a real incentive for people to take the assessment and obtain the new Award certificate,” he said. Others in the meeting were concerned that some of the big training organisations had not yet switched to the new City & Guilds system and were still offering ‘old’ qualifications. The moral of the story for pest controllers looking to get onto a training course is to make sure it’s one of the new ones leading to the City & Guilds Award. |
