There’s still time to comment on the draft standard for European pest management servicing but you need to get your skates on. The deadline is Monday 4 November.

The draft of the CEN European Standard for Pest Management Services has received almost 100 comments during its public consultation on the BSI website.

Consultation on the draft standard, EN 16636, Pest management services – Requirements and competences, will close on 4 November 2013, so it’s not too late for you to seize the opportunity to influence the development of a document that sets out the standard by which the pest control servicing industry will be measured.

The final standard will be published in the UK by BSI sometime in 2014.

Christopher Suter, Chairman of the BSI Technical Committee responsible for formulating UK input, said: “The Standard is a great opportunity for providers of pest management services, whether they are big or small, to demonstrate that they work in a truly professional way. It is important that it works for everybody who has an interest in pest management. Please read it and provide your views by 4 November.”

The CEN standard is a voluntary industry initiative that specifies the requirements, recommendations and basic competences under which pest management servicing companies must operate to guarantee a professional service to their customers and ensure that the industry is recognised for responsibly protecting European citizens, animals and the environment in which they live against public health risks.

Greeting the publication of the draft Standard in July, Rob Fryatt, chairman of the CEN TC 404 workgroup said: “I am delighted to see the CEN draft standard now available for the important public consultation phase and right on time! The work by the CEN European workgroup and the members of each of the national mirror groups has led to a document that the European industry should feel proud of. It’s a first for our great industry – anywhere in the world. I would encourage the industry to read the document and feedback any comments. The consultation stays open until November so there is plenty of time for everyone to comment.”
