It’s all change. New Biocides regulations published and three of the leading pest control trade associations from around the world have new presidents.

Within Europe, two of the most active associations have a new president.

    New Biocides Regulation published
And quite by chance, the incoming president at the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) came on the very same day – 27 June 2012 – that the Biocides Regulation (EU) 528/2012 was officially published.

As previously reported, the Directive established a two-step process of approval: first, evaluation of the active substance at the Union level, and second, product authorisation at Member State level.

    BPCA in the UK
At its annual general meeting held in Derby on 27 June the membership of the BPCA elected Henry Mott of Conquer Pest Control, based near Nottingham, to become its new president. Henry, who has served the last three years as vice president, takes over the mantle from Martina Flynn from BASF, who has served as president throughout this time.

    ANID in Italy
In Italy, the executive board of the Associazione Nazionale della Imprese di Disinfestestazione (ANID) during its meeting held on the 6 June unanimously nominated Francesco Saccone to become its new president. Francesco is the owner of CE.D.IT. srl, a family owned and run pest control company based in Siena. As in the UK, Francesco had already acted as vice president of the Association, as well as an executive board member of CEPA. President Saccone succeeds Sergio Urizio.

His election coincides with the start of a ‘new era’ in the development of ANID brought about by the many important commitments faced by the association. As outgoing president Sergio Urizio said; “It is necessary to expand the commitment of the members of the board, working towards an articulate and specific team effort.”

Francesco, the new president, has immediately set about reorganisation of the executive board and the association’s working groups.

Accross the Atlantic – in the USA
The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) recently announced the results of its annual board elections which included the election of a new president who is to be Laura Simpson of Dugas Pest Control from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. Again, a family owned and operated company since 1957.

“I am pleased to be selected as the association president by my industry peers,” said Laura. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue to promote the general interest and welfare of the pest management industry, as well as reinforce the value of pest management in protecting public health and property.”
