Visitors flood into a bumper PestTech 2009

The best yet! This was the unanimous verdict of everyone involved with PestTech 2009 held at the National Motorcycle Museum on 4 November.

Congratulations to the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA), the organisers of PestTech 2009, for putting on what turned out to be a bumper gathering.

This annual one-day event has certainly turned-into the highlight of the autumn calendar. Having been running as an exhibition for sixteen years, the consolidation of the extra events held in parallel certainly drew in the crowds.

On first count, NPTA estimate that well over 1,400 visitors attended. If the queue to register for the event was anything to go by, this was certainly the case. And virtually all exhibitors with freebies to give-away off their stands had exhausted supplies by lunch-time.

As soon as the doors opened, visitors flooded into the exhibition halls. On our stand at Pest magazine we were at times overwhelmed by delegates either wanting to sign-up to receive the magazine andPest+, or simply to say how much they are enjoying reading it.

As joint editors and publishers, Helen and Frances would like to thank you all very much for your words of praise – it makes those long days writing it all worthwhile.

It’s good to see innovation within the industry and more new organisations exhibiting. There were at least six companies present for the first time – these included UniChem who had come all the way from Slovenia.

The outdoor practical demonstrations drew large crowds, and for once the sun shone – well, certainly for the morning sessions!

Extra seats were needed for attendees at the Pest Control News workshop where the likely changes to the RSPH/BPCA Certificate in Pest Control (Level 2) were debated (for details click here) as well as a new Wildlife Aware initiative launched – click here to read.

New additions to the programme were the new product launch talks plus three technical workshops and a successful meeting of the Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM) group.

If this were all not enough, it was a full-house at the Pest Control News dinner held the same evening! At the event, this year”s additions to the Pest Control News Hall of Fame were inducted – to see who they are, click here.

Look-out for further reports from PestTech on thePestwebsite and, of course, a full report in Pest magazine which will be with readers well before the Christmas break.
