    BASIS has published a new set of standards for the Store Inspection Scheme(s) to ensure clarity, rigour and consistency for the sector.

    Lindsay Smith, BASIS auditing and compliance manager, said that the new Standards Booklet has been developed with the inspecting authorities and industry stakeholders to provide a clear set of standards that enable membership and industry visibility and a uniform approach.

    “The standards are based on legislation, Codes of Practice and best practice guidance, as well as the current audit questions and checklist,” Ms Smith said.

    “The Schemes, including those for contractors and small stores, assess compliance and ensure that there is a high standard of storage, safety and environmental protection throughout the pesticide storage, distribution and contract application sector.”

    The new standards allow all nominated storekeepers, BASIS auditors and the wider industry a comprehensive view of the relevant audit standards to achieve, along with a checklist and further resources.

    The standards include:

    • Pesticide storage requirements;
    • Environmental protection and emergency action planning;
    • Training; and
    • Transport.

    Stephen Jacob, BASIS chief executive, said: “We are pleased to show continual development with the new standards. These ensure our members are compliant with their requirements, are supported with guidance and that we can continue to raise professional standards for this important industry in the years to come.”
