Following the introduction of the BASIS Store Inspection Scheme Standards in February 2023, the BASIS Audit Team have been progressing through its planned inspection audits.

BASIS said the introduction of the Standards have allowed further clarity on how the audit team looks at different aspects of your BASIS Store and the management of it, including documentation such as the Emergency Contingency Plan, COSHH and Environmental Risk Assessment, ensuring these are suitably completed and reviewed.

One of the key areas where deficiencies have been identified this season, is insufficient or damaged bunding.

BASIS said that over 55% of audits, including Rodenticide Point of Sale Audits, on-site audits for the Amenity and Lawn Assured Schemes, have now been completed and the team is on target for all audits to be completed before the end of October 2023.

In a statement, BASIS said: “Members willingness to be audited even during busy times, is appreciated by BASIS and helps to keep costs to a minimum with groups of audits completed in the same area to reduce repeated travel costs.

“We are aware that this is sometimes difficult as you have your day-to-day business to run, but our team understand that and try to keep their time with you to a minimum.  One way of ensuring a concise audit is by working through any pre-inspection checklists and documents needed for the audit in the run up to the planned audit.  This can reduce time spent locating items or documentation needed on the day.”
