Benelux Pest 2011 has a flying start

Perfectly located in the middle of the woods of Veluwe, this was the third running of Benelux Pest. Once again organised byPest Control News , nearly 300 pest professionals made a visit to see the 31 exhibitors.

Delegates came not only from Holland, but also from Belgian, Germany, France, Poland, USA, South Africa and the UK. The big international manufacturers – such as Bayer, AgriSense, BASF, Bell and DuPont were present – as were the distributors, like Killgerm Benelux, as well as pest control companies and institutions. This was in fact, the debut public outing for Killgerm since its acquisition of RIWA Nederland this summer.

Only a few new products were on display, but several companies announced that they were planning to use Benelux Pest 2012 to introduce their new products to the Dutch and Belgian markets.

Besides the exhibition, pest controllers could also see an excellent bird of prey demonstration along with short presentations by 10 exhibitors.

These presentations were well attended, as was the lecture of Dr Marieta Braks of the The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) based in Bilthoven, who covered the problems of pests in urban areas. In her talk the problems caused by mosquitoes received much attention.

In the afternoon, outside on the golf course, Paul Hoyes from Killgerm Chemicals demonstrated the secrets of how to get rid of moles to 45 delegates.

The day closed with the traditionalPest Control News dinner. Master of ceremonies for the whole event was Rinus van Zanten who did a good job organising Benelux Pest 2011. But many of the visitors made his day a little longer by staying up late in the bar!
