BPCA launches new magazine aimed at clients

The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) has launched a new magazine called alexo designed to help those who manage premises to minimise their risk from public health pests.

As announced at PestEx 2011 – see here – alexo now hits the newstands.

alexo, as BPCA explains, is aimed at anyone who commissions pest control for their organisation, or has an interest in it from the client side. The magazine contains feature articles on different aspects of pest control and public health, an A-Z directory of pest controllers, gutsy editorial and some short news articles as well.

BPCA asked clients and those who police the sector what they want. The short answer is ‘professionalism’ – they want to know the companies they use for pest control are proper and legitimate businesses, trained to deliver results and minimise risk. Similarly, clients want to see how the sector is addressing the challenges of new pest species, rodenticide resistance, bed bugs, etc. The magazine is designed to demonstrate how the industry both delivers that professionalism and solves those challenges.

The launch of this magazine is a first for this industry. Not even the biggest servicing companies produce a large magazine specifically for customers. BPCA is leading the sector by being first to market with a publication of this type.

Simon Forrester, BPCA chief executive said: “alexo means ‘I protect, or I defend’ – which we think sums up exactly what our industry does; day in, day out. The focus for the magazine and BPCA is public health protection and promotion. The magazine focuses on solutions not problems – prevention not pests.”

alexo aims to assist all those with pest control issues by providing news, feature articles, and case studies from peers in areas such as agriculture, building management, catering & hospitality, cleanroom environments, construction, education, energy & utilities, facilities management, food manufacture, healthcare, heritage/museums/galleries, manufacturing, packaging, retail, sports/resorts/leisure and transport & distribution.
