There are fewer than five weeks to the opening of the 9th International Conference on Urban Pests (ICUP) to be held in Birmingham, UK between 9-12 July 2017.

    Book now!
If you’ve not reserved you place yet, register now. The organisers plan to close online registration on 16 June.

Doors at Aston University in Birmingham, UK, will open for the conference on the afternoon of Sunday 9 July 2017. There will be a welcome reception that evening so that delegates can begin to forge new contacts as well as renewing old friendships.

The programme of the scientific conference begins with a full plenary session on the morning of Monday 10 July with delegates then selecting from concurrent sessions on bed bugs or invasive species for the afternoon. Over the subsequent two days there will be 60 concurrent sessions for delegates to pick from, plus over 40 poster papers with speakers from right across the globe. A wide range of themes will be covered from bed bugs to rodents and from invasive species to mosquitoes and termites.

Dr Matthew Davies, chair of the Organising Committee, adds: “Although the main attraction of ICUP 2017 is quite rightly the quality science relating to urban pests, there remains ample time to enjoy oneself away from the lecture theatre. Accommodation on campus is included in the price of registration to allow delegates to get to know each other. Everyone being together on campus is a great way to enjoy networking. The best urban pest discussions sometimes take place outside of a lecture theatre. Let it be known too that the Organising Committee know how to throw a great party, so be sure to include the conference dinner in your booking!”

With Birmingham being a historical and current ‘hotspot’ for British rock music, the Organising Committee has booked ‘The Subterraneans’, a local rock band with an outstanding live set that gets all nationalities dancing, as they play instantly recognisable hits from the 60’s to the current day.

Can’t manage the whole conference? Come to the one-day workshop
For delegates who can’t manage to tear themselves away from their business for the full four days, come to the special one-day workshop for pest management professionals within the ICUP programme.

    Workshop Too good to miss
Held on Tuesday 11 July 2017, this really is an opportunity too good to miss.

Some of the world’s leading pest control experts and researchers will be on your door-step and as Dr Matt Davies, chair of ICUP explains: “The workshop will focus on the more control-based research and is designed to appeal to practical pest controllers.”

“The chance to attend a conference of this calibre, on one’s doorstep, is an opportunity not to be passed up. The last time ICUP came to the UK was 1996, so these chances do not come around very often,” says Matt.

The one-day workshop dedicated to control-based topics has a strong grounding in good science offering the best of both the scientific and practical worlds. It will be chaired by the highly respected David Oldbury (NPAP CIEH).

    Presentions short and sweet
Half hour presentations will be given on subjects ranging from rodenticides to bed bugs, from mice to pigeons and mosquitoes. There will also be a session on a unique study on insects in homes, as well as on international pest management credentialing.

The workshop runs from 09.00 to 17.30. Price £197. BASIS PROMPT CPD points will be available.

A convenient and inexpensive overnight stay in the comfortable and modern Aston University student accommodation can be added to the booking, as well as parking and the conference dinner.
