Dethlac, the invisible lacquer that kills ants fast, is back!

Dethlac, the trusted insecticidal lacquer that has been eliminating ants and crawling insects for over 65 years, is making its long-awaited return, after a temporary absence in 2024.

The product will return by mid-April, just in time for the warmer months when ants begin invading homes across the UK.

Ant infestations are a common problem throughout the UK, particularly as temperatures rise. Black garden ants are the most frequent intruders, seeking out sugary foods and making their way into kitchens and cupboards.

Dethlac is a must-have for any homeowner dealing with persistent ant problems. The insecticidal lacquer forms a clear, durable film when sprayed along entry points, cracks, and crevices where ants sneak in. The formula works by allowing ants to pick up the active ingredient as they cross, eliminating them fast.

Once dry, the lacquer is completely safe for family and pets, offering protection that lasts even through rain and cleaning.

Dethlac has been a staple in UK homes for more than six decades. First introduced to the market in 1959, it was originally developed and manufactured by Gerhardt Pharmaceuticals.

Following the passing of managing director Roy Archer a short while after a devastating fire destroyed the factory, his daughters Carolyn Archer and Penelope Campbell took the Dethlac brand which they have successfully run for over 45 years.

In November 2024, IGA Global (trading as Wilsons of Colchester) acquired the Dethlac brand, ensuring its continued legacy.

Wilsons, a family-owned business with over 30 years of expertise in the DIY and Hardware industry, said it is committed to maintaining Dethlac’s original powerful formula while bringing it back to market for loyal customers.

Carolyn Archer, former owner of Dethlac, said: “Millions of cans have been sold over the past 65 years, and we are delighted that Wilsons, another family-run business, will continue to make Dethlac a success.”
