Exhibitors and visitors came from across Europe to attend Parasitec which this year returned to its regular home of the Cite Des Sciences & de l’Industrie in Paris.
Parasitec, after being held in Algeria last year, returned to Paris and proved as popular as ever. A new development this year was extending the event to a third day. So Parasitec ran from 17 to 19 November 2010. Although exhibitors were kept busy for all three days, some did query the addition of the third day, as the last day did prove quieter than the first two. For exhibitors, it is certainly a long time to stand on their feet!

In total 58 companies exhibited – 16% more than when last held in Paris in 2008. And 1,910 visitors registered – an increase of 20% from the time before. As to be expected, the largest number of stands were taken by French organisations. But, the multinationals were well represented with Bell, Bayer and BASF to the fore. In addition, there were several exhibitors from further away, some of whom had recently attended PestWorld in Hawaii. British companies were well represented, with stands taken byInternational Pest Control, Killgerm,P+L, Russell IPM, Spray Systems and SX Environmental Supplies. Parasitec is always a very sociable event with refreshments (alcoholic) served on several of the stands. Visitors to the Lodi stand were treated to a glass of champagne and the opportunity to have a carton drawn of themselves. This year the second day coincided with an important date in the French calendar – the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau. Need we say more? The French pest control industry is currently facing several challenges which will alter the way they conduct business. Like all other EU countries, the affects of the Biocidal Products Directive and the loss of available products is one, but other issues include the training and certification of technicians, the creation of standards as part of the CEN project, along with technical issues, such as the rise of bedbug infestations. It was hardly surprising, therefore, that the programme of seminars held alongside proved very popular. Click here for a fuller report. Also new this year was a demonstration area where manufacturers could demonstrate and explain the features of their own products. A very wide selection of topics was covered, ranging from wasps to bedbugs and from birds to fumigation. Summing up the event, organiser Pierre Kabouche said: “I want to thank very warmly all the pest professionals who play such a vital role in environmental health protection and prevention in our urban societies. “In a fast changing world, throughout Europe, professional meetings such as PestEx, Eurocido and Parasitec are special occasions enabling an exchange of ideas, debates and training, all of which are essential for a better understanding of the problems and so help construct solutions.” As to the future, Pierre concluded by saying: “In the coming weeks, we will keep you informed as to our plans for ‘Parasitec Export’ to be held in Southern Europe, in November 2011. In any event, we can already invite you to the next Parasitec in Paris, in November 2012.” |
