Pests hit the TV screens again – Easter Eggs Live on C4 on Easter Sunday & Monday

Timed to coincide with Easter, these programmes revolve around eggs – including some of those from our frequently encountered public health pests – notably bed bugs, cockroaches and maggots.

Using the latest imaging technology and ground-breaking research, the programmes (in their words) aim to reveal the wonderful – and often downright weird – world of eggs.

From crocodiles to cockroaches, fish to frogs, turtles to termites, sharks to snakes and penguins to praying mantises, 99% of life (including humans!) comes from an egg. The eggs in the programme’s hatchery are all due to hatch over the Easter weekend.

Easter Eggs Live is produced by the same company (Windfall Films) as Foxes Live which went out in May 2012 – see Pest report here.

It is once again presented by Mark Evans, who is to be joined by Jimmy Doherty. He will be sharing his love for bugs, as he takes viewers into the micro-world of cockroaches, maggots and bed bugs. Jimmy will explore the unwelcome eggs that are laid in our homes in a specially-built infestation experiment.

Research by Pest has discovered that David Cain of Bed Bugs Ltd entertained Jimmy and the crew to film the bed bug sequences. To see this footage click here.

As in Foxes Live, viewers will be encouraged to participate by voting for the pest which has caused them the most trouble. The results are to be presented in the second programme on 1 April.

Run over two consecutive evenings, the first Easter Eggs Live programme goes out at 20.00 on Sunday 31 March, with the second the following day (Monday 1 April) at 20.00.

In addition, 20 live streams of eggs hatching are available round-the-clock on the Easter Eggs Live website.
