    Preparing for the 2026 CRRU amendments

    The 2026 amendments to the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) guidelines are fast approaching, and the pest control industry must prepare to meet new certification and professional development requirements.

    Central to these changes is the emphasis on training, responsible rodenticide use, and ongoing development through CPD.

    If you’re a pest controller, staying ahead of these requirements is vital – not just for compliance, but for demonstrating professionalism and protecting the environment.

    Understanding the 2026 requirements
    Mandatory Certification
    CRRU approved certification will continue to be required to purchase and use professional rodenticide products. This certification must include knowledge and skills in line with CRRU’s Code of Best Practice.

    Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
    IPM is a mandatory practice for pest controllers, emphasising non-chemical methods like monitoring, proofing, and habitat management. Rodenticides must only be used as a last resort.

    CPD requirements for pest controllers
    If your CRRU-approved certification is more than five years old on January 1, 2026, then you will also need to have been a member of a CRRU-approved CPD scheme in 2025, and achieved your 20 points in 2025, and three of these points must come from CRRU-approved courses.

    This ensures that all certified professionals stay updated on the latest practices in wildlife-safe rodenticide use and environmental protection.

    What are CRRU-approved CPD activities?
    Three CRRU approved CPD requirements have been released so far for 2025.
    These are:

    • Stewardship Update- 2025: Strengthening Measures & Code of Best Practice Update;
    • Environmental Risk Assessments; and
    • Direct Bait Application in Burrows (Justification & Mitigation Measures)

    Steps to prepare for 2026
    Review Your CPD Progress

    • Check your current CPD points and ensure you’re on track to meet the annual 20-point target.
    • Verify that at least three points each year are from CRRU-approved activities.

    Enrol in CRRU-approved training
    Look for courses and webinars endorsed by CRRU or organised by BPCA or NPTA.

    Integrate IPM into your practice

    • Focus on proofing, monitoring, and habitat management to reduce reliance on rodenticides;
    • Document your IPM approach as part of your professional development and compliance efforts; and
    • Use CRRU Resources
