Rat problem in Milton Keynes leads to calls for Anglian Water to help

A rat problem in Milton Keynes has led to calls for the local water company, Anglia Water, to intervene.

Councillors have admitted that the rodent population has proved “problematic” in parts of the city.

Milton Keynes City Council was last year accused by local politicians of ‘ignoring’ the issue and Conservatives in the city have called for a pest control team to be reinstated. However, council leaders hit back, saying it committed to spending £120,000 to tackle the problem.

Councillor Paul Trendall has called upon Anglian Water to play their part in clearing Milton Keynes of rats.

Cllr Trendall said: “In common with all large cities Milton Keynes has a rodent population which is problematic to control in some areas.

“Control of the rodent population is a complex problem, which requires a multi-track approach, for which there is no one solution. Whilst the efforts of the City Council have had some success, a concerted effort by all the parties involved is essential for a permanent reduction of the rodent population”

Cllr Trendall wants Anglian Water to share any data concerning where baiting is taking place.

The matter will be raised at the next full council meeting at Milton Keynes civic centre next Wednesday (January 18).
