Second Urban Badger Conference is on 8 March in Derby

The pest management challenges associated with urban badgers will be discussed at the second Urban Badger Conference to be held at the Ramada Encore Hotel on Derby’s Pride Park on Friday 8 March.

No longer just a creature of woods and hedgerows, badgers can turn up just about anywhere. And, if that happens to be in a heavily populated town or city, there’s plenty of potential for conflict with their human neighbours. However, with badgers specifically protected under UK law, dealing with this conflict is a particularly difficult pest management challenge.

Organisers Gary Williams and Louise Summers from Urban Wildlife have put together a comprehensive programme for the second Urban Badger Conference.

The one-day event is aimed at anyone who may encounter urban badgers as part of their profession. This includes planners, environmnetal consultants, wildlife crime police officers, conservationists and pest managers.

The programme tackles some of those pest management issues and also plans to provide a platform for those ”for” and ”against” the proposed badger cull to express their opinions.

It will include an update on Brock vaccination and will challenge the status quo of current legisation, asking if there is a need to update the Badger Protection Act to include urban badgers.

The cost of the conference is £50, including lunch. Download a booking form or contact Urban Wildlife for more details.
