A company behind several Black Country supermarkets has been told to pay more than £500,000 after issues with pet infestations and safety.

Hygiene offences at Warley Supermarket, based in Fenton Street, Smethwick, included moth and mouse activity at Warley Supermarket and health and safety offences at Warley Drink Stop.

Director Mandeep Kaur Mandair and senior manager Raminder Mandair pleaded guilty to offences under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 and the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

Sukhbir Mandair, another senior manager, pleaded not guilty to offences under the Food Safety Hygiene Regulations but was convicted of all offences after a trial.

The company was ordered by Wolverhampton Crown Court to pay £60,000 for the food safety offences and £480,000 for the health and safety offences, Sandwell Council said.

It was also ordered costs of £16,191.20, with the total amount payable being £556,191.20.

Councillor Bob Piper, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for community safety, said: “The work of Sandwell’s Environmental Health Team in bringing cases, like this one against Warley Supermarkets (UK) Ltd, helps keep us all safe and I would commend their efforts to protect us all.”
